Our Story
At SOMY, we believe that sneakers are more than just footwear – they are a form of self-expression, a cultural symbol, we would even go as far as to say they are an art form. Our passion for sneakers runs deep, rooted in a love that began during childhood, scribbling and designing sneakers on our school notebooks when we couldn’t afford the real thing.
As we matured our passion turned to wearing and collecting. We became avid sneaker enthusiasts, immersed ourselves in sneaker culture and continued to spend countless hours drawing and designing sneakers, working on colour palettes and fuelling our creative spirits.
The Shoemaker
SOMY was founded in 2020 by graphic & brand designer Colm O’Connor. Based in Wexford, Ireland SOMY initially started as a design-driven clothing brand, but due to other commitments was put on hold after a very successful run of 1.5 years.
Never one to shy away from a challenge Colm re-ignited the SOMY brand in 2024. This time, the focus was on footwear, custom sneakers, and the timeless classic Nike Air Max 1. With absolutely no shoemaking experience the challenge was to learn how to make hand-crafted sneakers from the sole up, sourcing materials, tools, products etc. and documenting that sneaker-making journey throughout.
