From Galway to Global Recognition: Barbara’s Journey into Shoe Customisation
Barbara’s journey into the world of shoe customisation began in her hometown of Galway, Ireland, after returning from pursuing a design career in Vancouver, Canada. With the pandemic-induced economic downturn, she faced challenges, but instead of succumbing to the circumstances, she decided to explore her creative passions. Fuelled by her grandmother’s garden and the beauty of floral designs, Barbara found her calling in painting shoes with intricate patterns and vibrant colours.
In the midst of the first lockdown, she invested what little money she had left in purchasing ten pairs of shoes to paint. These hand-painted floral designs soon adorned the classic Nike Air Force 1’s and the Nike Cortez, elevating them from typical sneakers to unique pieces of wearable artwork.
Social Media Success: Barbara’s Rise to Fame on Instagram
What started as a creative outlet during lockdown quickly became a runaway success. To showcase her creations to the world, Barbara turned to Instagram, where she posted her custom designs. The response was overwhelming, with her posts quickly garnering thousands of likes and comments. Encouraged by the positive feedback, she realised the potential of her idea, and thus, her shoe art business was born.
